OREY volunteers at a Friends of Rockaway Volunteer Day in 2014!
Organization Reaching for the Empowerment of Youth (OREY) is looking for young volunteers (ages 18+) to help at a Spring Volunteer Day on Saturday, June 6, 2015 in the Rockaways. OREY volunteers will work in partnership with Friends of Rockaway (http://friendsofrockaway.org/) to help prepare a home that was devastated by Hurricane Sandy for the homeowners to move in. Tasks can include site preparation, hanging insulation or drywall, mudding, sanding, texturing, priming, painting, laying floors or hanging trim, doors and baseboard. OREY is excited to once again partner with Friends of Rockaway, whose staff will be on-site to give training and provide supplies. Transportation, water, lunch and snacks will be provided by OREY. Details regarding transportation and timing TBD. For more information and to register for OREY’s June 6th Volunteer Day, please email OREYorg@gmail.com.
This Spring, 33 OREY volunteers helped to give back by giving up their time to volunteer in two OREY Volunteer Days. On May 10th, 27 volunteers went to Harlem River Park in Manhattan for a Spring Clean Up Day in partnership with New Yorkers for Parks. The group of volunteers weeded and picked up garbage to help prepare the park for spring. Then on June 14th, five OREY volunteers spent the day rebuilding a house in the Rockaways in partnership with Friends of Rockaways. Thanks to support from Repair the World, www.werepair.org, OREY was able to organize the volunteer days with no cost to the volunteers.
